UTMB Community of Scholars Program

The UTMB Community of ScholarsOn August 18, 2003, more than 70 members of the next generation of researchers, educators and scientists were inducted into the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences through its fifth annual Community of Scholars program.

Welcoming this year’s students to UTMB were Dr. Cary W. Cooper, dean of the GSBS; keynote speaker Dr. W. Robert Fleischmann, professor of Microbiology and Immunology and Kate McElroy, Graduate Student Organization president.

In the ceremony, the students receive Community of Scholars pins and portfolios and recite the Graduate Student Code of Conduct, which reads:

Graduate study in the sciences and humanities is both a privilege and a responsibility. We at UTMB—students and faculty—are committed to principles that reflect our society’s fundamental ideas of fairness and maintain an environment in which scholarly excellence can continue to flourish. For you, the incoming classes of the GSBS, we begin your initiation into our common values with the following statement of principles and code of conduct.
