Under the Division of Health and Human Development at the Pan American Health Organization, she led an initiative to advance research and programming on issues of health equity for the organization. She has experience coordinating community-based research and interventions as well as policy development on issues of health disparities and public health in a number of countries. She has undertaken research with the Karolinska Institute as well as Equinet (the Regional Network for Equity in Southern Africa) and has received grant funding from the Rockefeller Foundation, the Gates Foundation, the Swedish International Development Agency, the Karolinska Institute, and the NIH. She has edited, authored, or co-authored three books, four book chapters, and 16 articles and commissioned manuscripts.
