The Residency Training Program in Radiation Oncology at the University of Texas Medical Branch participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) for PGY-2 positions in Radiation Oncology, and you should register with the NRMP, if you have not already done so. Our program is accredited by the ACGME and complies with the requirements of the American Board of Radiology for training in Radiation Oncology. We offer four years of clinical training with an integrated requirement for research that may be either clinical or laboratory based. Our next opening will be in July 2008.

We participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) offered through the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Please carefully review the checklist listed below. We recommend that at least one letter of reference be from a faculty radiation oncologist who preceptored your clinical or research experience.

UTMB faculty includes four board certified radiation oncologists, four board certified medical physicists, and three radiation biologists. The clinical resources of the Department include “state-of–the-art” treatment planning and treatment units. We have three new linear accelerators with a range of photon and electron beams. Accessories include electronic portal imaging, multileaf collimation, and stereotactic radiosurgery. Capabilities include conformal and intensity modulated radiation therapy, CT and conventional simulation, and 3-D and inverse treatment planning. Other resources include a dedicated intraoperative x-ray unit and a full range of brachytherapy devices. Up to date computer resources include a personal computer for each resident, linked to the department, hospital and campus networks and Internet access.

Each year faculty and residents evaluate about 900 cancer patients, and about 700 new patients commence treatment. The patient census varies from 50 to 75 patients per day. We have active clinical collaborations with the other oncologic divisions, and we participate in clinical trial protocols of the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), the Childrens Oncology Group (COG), and the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), in addition to various institutional protocols.

Applications are accepted September 1st through October 15th. A faculty committee will review all applications, and selected candidates will be invited for interviews in December, January and February. For further information please contact:
