The Department of Rehabilitation Services has a long established legacy of excellence in providing training and educational experiences for students enrolled in Occupational Therapy (OT), Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA), Physical Therapy (PT), Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA), and Therapeutic Recreation (TR) programs from across the Country.
Both level I and level II fieldwork experiences are provided to OT and OTA students, from selected programs accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association. Fieldwork experiences are available in the outpatient, acute, pediatric, work programs and the mental health areas of practice.
Junior level affiliations (4 weeks or less) and Senior level affiliations (5 weeks or more) are provided to PT and PTA students in accordance with the guidelines established by the accreditation standards for Physical Therapy curricula. Fieldwork experiences are available in the outpatient, acute and pediatric areas of practice.
Long-term (12 weeks plus) training rotations for Therapeutic Recreation students are provided according to the guidelines of the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation. Fieldwork experience at this facility is available in the mental health area of practice.
Prior to allowing a reservation for a training slot, the Department of Rehabilitation Services must establish a Program Agreement and affiliation letter contract with the academic curriculum of origin. Any curriculum interested in having their students train at UTMB must establish a contractual agreement with the University using UTMB originated forms.
