Installation and Configuration of Dialup Software
Windows 3.xUTMB support for remote access using Windows 3.x is very limited. It is recommended you use Windows 95/98 or a Macintosh to access UTMB. If you must use Windows 3.x you will be pretty much on your own or limited to the help your friends and peers can provide. Some software (including the Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.03 dialer which can be used to dial in and read Exchange email via the web) is available.
Windows 9x
Out of the box Windows 95 provides dialup support for connections to TCP/IP
(Internet) and IPX (Novell) networks. Windows 98 dialup support is slightly enhanced and updated version of the Windows 95
dialup networking. You can automatically configure your dialup
connection by installing the UTMB Dialup Services software. UTMB Dialup Services uses
Microsoft's Internet Connection Manager to install and configure dialup networking for
Windows 95/98. The process is completely automatic - you choose only the phone number to
dial from the phone book included.
Windows ME
The UTMB Dialup Services software above is also recommended for Windows
ME.
Windows NT
If you use Windows NT we assume you can be self sufficient. Some helpful documents
exist on the internet for configuring WinNT RAS for PPP dialup.
Windows 2000
The UTMB Dialup Services software also works with Windows
2000. In addition Windows 2000 is easily configured for dialup connections in
the Network and Dial-up Connections control panel.
Windows XP
The current UTMB Dialup Services software DOES NOT with Windows
XP. A new version will be available shortly. Windows XP is easily configured for dialup connections in
the Network and Dial-up Connections control panel.
MacOS
Mac OS 7.6 includes the Apple Internet Connection Kit, which allows
dialup connectivity and application software for accessing Internet sites (including
Netscape Navigator and POPmail client). Internet connectivity is integrated into MacOS 8. Open Transport 1.1 for
MacOS includes MacPPP for dialup TCP/IP connectivity.
Pre-7.5 versions of MacOS will require MacPPP or FreePPP to connect to UTMB via modem. FreePPP is an improved version of MacPPP with a better user interface and installation program.
