"Translational Research:
Maximizing Discoveries for Human Health"

Translational Research is the process whereby medical
discoveries are moved forward to improve patient care.

Discoveries that are made in fundamental, patient-oriented, or community based research and subsequently applied to improve health would be considered translational research.

The Retreat considered Translational Research as an iterative process where discoveries are applied to patient and population studies using a defined set of interventional tools.  This process requires interactions between researchers with diverse skills and successful translation of a research discovery frequently takes several iterations.
