About UTMB Health:
The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) is a modern academic medical center with more than 70 major buildings, more than 3,200 students and nearly 1,000 faculty.
UTMB is comprised of an 84-acre campus on Galveston Island that includes four schools, institutes for advanced study, a major medical library, and the Galveston National Laboratory. The organization is also home to the UTMB Angleton Danbury Campus, a 45-bed acute care facility and the UTMB League City Campus, which is comprised of specialty clinics, an emergency department and an outpatient hospital (opening August 2015). We offer a full range of primary and specialty care services at locations in Galveston, throughout the Bay Area, Angleton Danbury and Lake Jackson, and 28 Regional Maternal Child Health clinics. We are also an affiliated Shriners Burns Hospital, and numerous research facilities. We contract with the state of Texas to provide health care to two-thirds of the state’s offenders at the 108-bed, maximum security prison hospital in Galveston; we also operate 78 Correctional Managed Care clinics, the most cost effective system in the nation of its kind, with lowest per member per day cost. CMC runs one of the most efficient pharmacies in the nation.
Our pharmacists are an integral part of the team in the provision of patient care and play a primary role in our vision of the future. The pharmacy uses up to date and advance technology, including a Robot, Carousel, Pyxis, and CPOE, which allows for advancement of pharmacy technician support, and strategic placement of professional staff to provide the optimal level of clinical services to support patient care. Additionally, the Pharmacy Department supports the educational goals for UTMB and pharmacy practice through their provision of education to healthcare providers, residents, and pharmacy students.
Services currently provided include: comprehensive pharmaceutical care, including quality, cost effective therapy; central and decentral automated drug distribution services; comprehensive IV and chemotherapy services; drug information; investigational drug services; clinical services; an ASHP accredited residency program; and Introductory and Advance Pharmacy Practice Experiential rotations for three Colleges of Pharmacy.
