The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is a 820 bed academic health science center located on historical Galveston Island. The complex includes a tertiary care hospital with six affiliate hospitals, two research institutes and schools of medicine, nursing and allied health sciences. Health care services encompass the entire spectrum of medical specialties and include 110 specialty and subspecialty clinics. Our pharmacists are an integral part of the team in the provision of patient care and play a primary role in our vision of the future. In our newly remodeled pharmacy, we are preparing for the future with the utilization of automation, advancement of pharmacy technician support, and strategic placement of professional staff to provide the optimal level of clinical services to support patient care. Services currently provided include: central and decentral automated drug distribution systems, comprehensive IV and chemotherapy services, drug information services, investigational drug services, ASHP accredited residency program, ASHP technician training program, and internship / clerkship programs for two schools of pharmacy. Vision: Pharmaceutical Services will undergo a rapid evolution from the delivery of pharmaceutical products to the provision of Pharmaceutical care through coordinated clinical pharmacy activities which are targeted towards positive patient outcomes. Mission: To provide support to UTMB goals of innovative teaching and scientific research, while maintaining national prominence by remaining on the forward edge of the most current state of the art patient care.
