The university hosted the On-Site Review Committee of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). SACS reaffirms UTMB’s academic areas in much the same way as the Joint Commission accredits our clinical enterprise. Reaffirmation is critical to our mission as a university, critical to the success of our students, and critical to our access to federal support, tuition funding and research dollars.
The review committee’s visit caps several years of work at UTMB spent in preparation, internal review and planning.
The review committee has given our institution high marks, what one reviewer called a “95 on a scale to a hundred.” There was one recommendation made overall, and a second recommendation made related to enhancing the assessment of our quality enhancement plan, “synergy” (synergy received glowing reviews). One of the reviewers commented that what UTMB accomplished was exceptional.
We expect the reaffirmation of our accreditation to become final at the December 2008 meeting of the SACS Commission on Colleges.
