The Board of Regents of The University of Texas System establishes the role, reporting, term, duties, and responsibilities of the president in the Regents' Rules and Regulations (1). The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston president reports to and is responsible to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, who is responsible to the Chancellor and the Board of Regents. The University of Texas System organizational chart is published by the UT System Chancellor and is available on the UT System Internet site (2).
At the institutional level, UTMB has a clearly defined organizational structure that delineates responsibility for the administration of policies. The organizational chart and the academic infrastructure chart are both published and available on the institutional website (3) (4). As shown in the chart, the president of UTMB serves as the executive head of the institution. The Chief Academic Officer, the Vice Presidents for Finance, University Advancement, Community Health Services, Hospitals and Clinics, Human Resources, and Facilities and Services all report directly to the President, as does the Chief Information Officer. In the Academic Structure, the Council of Deans and the Chief Academic Officer report to the President. The Academic Deans Council, Student Affairs Council, and Research Education and Training Council are responsible to the Council of Deans. The Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Academic Resources, and Student Services report to the Chief Academic Officer and to the Institutional Educational Effectiveness Committee (IEEC). The IEEC in turn reports to the Academic Deans.
