Narrative

The School of Health Professions (SHP) and School of Nursing (SON) both offer courses that are taught at a distance. Neither has a fee associated directly with verification of student identity, but verification of identify is essential for students taking proctored examinations and there may be fees assessed by the proctoring site.

School of Health Professions. Students in the School of Health Professions (SHP) are responsible for paying all costs involved in off-campus testing. The School has no additional charges associated with verification of student identity (1).

School of Nursing. The SON also does not have an additional charge for verification of identity of students. The SON does have a proctor policy for online exams for the traditional B.S.N., R.N. to B.S.N., M.S.N., and D.N.P. programs that is presented to the students as part of their orientation packet (2). Students at a distance are instructed to locate a recognized proctor center or location that is best for them. The student is responsible for any cost incurred for proctoring services. A proctor signup page or link is available in each distance course during the first one-two weeks of class, allowing students to sign up for a testing center and proctor for that course. Special accommodations for examinations must be requested from the SON Student Affairs department. Students taking distant education courses that live within proximity of Galveston may, with the instructor’s permission, take one proctored exam per course on the UTMB campus. This information is repeated in the SON Student Handbook available online (3).
