The real-time PCR Core Facility, directed by
Lisa Elferink, Ph.D., offers a full complement of real-time PCR services for UTMB
departments and centers. These services include primer and probe design and order, preparation
of real-time PCR reactions and data analyses for gene expression (DNA and RNA samples),
MicroRNA assays as well as allelic discrimination. The PCR core facility has the following
major equipment available: Applied Biosystems (ABI) PRISM 7000 sequence detector with a Dell
Pentium III laptop computer; a Dell Pentium IV desktop computer installed with the ABI PRISM
7000 SDS (sequence detection system), PrimerExpress and file builder software; a Hewlett
Packard DeskJet 970 cxi printer; a Beckman GS-6R centrifuge with a GH3.7 rotor; a VSMC-13 mini
centrifuge; a refrigerator and a ‑20 C freezer.
