The Sealy Center on Aging Volunteer Registry
Description:
The Volunteer Registry maintains a list of persons aged 55 and older who are interested in participating in research studies. Pertinent information is stored on the General Clinic Research Center (CRC) database.
Purpose:
The Registry facilitates research at UTMB by helping recruit elderly persons, by maintaining a database of community dwelling individuals, and disseminating information about research projects through newsletters, presentations, etc.

Birthdate
Race
Gender
Height/weight
Occupation (past and present); retirement
Education
Means of transportation
Walking devices
Medications
Major diseases/allergies
Hearing and vision
Smoking history
Hospitalizations in past 12 months
Physical activity
Medical insurance
Recruitment from within registry:
Determine by reviewing the Subject Information Form whether your study criteria are included. If so, potentially eligible persons will be contacted either by the Registry or investigator by mail to determine interest and eligibility in the study.
Community at Large:
The Registry will also help researchers with recruitment of subjects by either providing names of newsletters and places to advertise or by submitting announcements and making presentations for the researcher.
Information Dissemination:
Information articles about your research may be submitted to the Registry for publication in the Registry's newsletter.
Confidentiality:
Subjects complete a Subject Information Form. This information is entered into the Clinical Research Center (CRC) database which is accessible to designated staff of CRC and Center on Aging. Information is released only to investigators with IRB approval. They must agree to keep information confidential and not to release the names to any other persons.
