Our Mission
To improve the health and well being of the elderly, not only within the Houston/Galveston area but also statewide and nationally, through education, research, clinical and social services, community participation and advocacy, and the establishment of cooperative linkages with other geriatric and gerontological centers.
History
1987 Created as part of Division of Geriatrics
1992 Dr. Goodwin hired as Director
1994 Health of the Public Needs Assessment
1995 Designated as Sealy Center
1999 Established Pepper Center through $6.5 million NIH grant
2002 Awarded $9.2 million NIH grant to establish Center for Population Health and Health Disparities
2003 East Texas Geriatric Education Center of established - $1.2 million HRSA grant
2005 Pepper Center grant renewed
