UTMB OAIC Accomplishments

UTMB Pepper investigators hold a number of externally funded grants that support interdisciplinary translational research on muscle function in older persons.  In addition, Pepper-related studies have resulted in many publications in high-impact journals.

Investigation

Between 1999 and 2004, more than 60 investigators have worked on Pepper research projects across the UTMB campus including the effects of nutritional, hormonal and exercise interventions on muscle function in older subjects.

Collaboration

UTMB OAIC has expanded its collaboration with other OAICs including Wake Forest and University of Maryland OAICs to analyze muscle samples from patients enrolled in clinical trials of interventions to improve function.

Participation

More than 60% of the 560 subjects screened have completed at least one protocol in our Pepper studies.
