The mission of the WHO/PAHO Collaborating Center is to foster research to improve the health of older populations in Latin Americaand the Caribbean. This is possible by establishing collaborations with institutions in Latin America. The work of the Center is also committed to training scholars with a
cross-cultural, multidisciplinary perspective.
WHO/PAHO collaborating centers play an essential role in research and clinical training in public health, geriatrics, and gerontology. Members of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (WHO/PAHO) Collaborating Center for Research on Aging and Hispanic Health are leaders in providing technical expertise to PAHO member countries so they can attain the maximum level of equity in access and quality of health services for older people in the Americas.
Seven WHO Collaborating Centers focus on research and training in aging/geriatrics; three are dedicated to aging and health. UTMB is home to the only WHO Collaborating Center on Aging and Health in North America.
