Scott C. Weaver, Ph.D.
Research Interests:

My interests include development of novel vaccine strategies for alphaviruses and evaluation of vaccines in laboratory animal models, as well as in locations of endemic disease. I am also interested in alphavirus pathogenesis, especially in elucidating mechanisms of innate immunity that protect reservoir hosts from severe disease. I also study the viral genetics of mosquito vector infection, including susceptibility to vaccine strains of alphaviruses and dengue virus. I am collaborating with Dr. Ilya Frolov on novel vaccines for Venezuelan (VEE), eastern (EEE) and western equine encephalitis (WEE) virus, and with Drs. Robert Davey, David Gorenstein, and Stanley Watowich on antivirals targeted against VEE virus assembly and replication.
