As Director for the Office of Pediatric Clinical Trials, I intend to implement a program that allows for use of infrastructure in a manner that provides support for the clinical faculty in a timely, professional and efficient manner. As a primary care pediatrician and investigator, I plan to pursue opportunities focused on the individual effectiveness, as well as public health effect, of new vaccines for use on the front line of pediatrics. I intend to improve the understanding of existing vaccine therapies in children that may be undergoing revised recommendations, such as the effect of routine use of the existing influenza vaccine on the manifestation of this infection in infants and young children. The immunogenic issues of the routine use of this vaccine with this population have been understudied and also present an opportunity for improved understanding. I plan, as well, to pursue collaborations for study of the opportunities and barriers to successful public health immunization programs, with our local community as the setting.
