As a board certified Adolescent Medicine physician, I am concerned with teen health. Social stigma, cultural beliefs and developmental aspects of adolescnce affect the screening, treatment and prevention of sexually transmitted infections. The parental and teen issues revolving around vaccination and products such as vaginal microbicides are intriguing. My time spent educating providers on the delivery of adolescent health care has made me aware of the fact that providers have an enormous effect on the acceptance of vaccinations and the delivery of preventative care. I am interested in new methods of improving adolescent health and in exploring parental, teen and provider issues in the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.
