Accidental Childhood Poisonings
- Do read and heed labels and precationary statements on containers
- Do store potentially harmful products and drugs out of the reach of children.
- Do dispose of unused portions and empty containers. (Wash out "empty" containers.)
- Do avoid taking out of original containers.
- Do avoid putting harmful substances into food or drink contaniers: such as storing gasoline in Coke bottles.
- Do train your children to stay away from storage areas and medicine cabinets.
- Do avoid leaving children alone, especially where potentially harmful substances are accessible, i.e., the kitchen or the bathroom.
- Do recognize that children are curious about things and they learn to climb at very young ages.
- Do avoid keeping edibles and non-edibles on the same shelf.
- Do avoid calling any medicines "candy."
- Do avoid buying over-the-counter medicines that are animal shaped or look like candy
- Do use "Mr. Yuk" stickers on all products and medicines. They can even be put on flower pots with poisonous plants!
