Severe weather can strike anywhere in the Lone Star State and Galveston with little warning. Severe weather affects everyone in Galveston with high winds, tornadoes, lightning and flooding a possibility. The National Weather Service has designated March 2 – 8 as “Severe Weather Awareness Week”. The observance aims at preparing Galveston citizens for violent weather by reminding adults and children of what to do when severe weather threatens. To protect their lives and property and minimize the damage from severe weather, people must learn what to do in the face of severe conditions. • Prepare a family emergency plan. • Put together an emergency supplies kit. • Keep a battery-operated radio or television for information. • Develop an emergency communication plan with out-of-area relatives or friends • Designate a place to go if you have to take shelter or evacuate. The Galveston Office of Emergency Management will provide more information on severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, flooding and lightning and actions to take for each throughout the remainder of “Severe Weather Awareness Week”. Stay informed and prepared for severe weather. Doing so could save your own life or the lives of your loved ones. Share this information with family, friends and neighbors. Next >> |
