Crisis Contact Information

In the event of an urgent or crisis situation with a UTMB student, you may do any of the following:

  • For emergency situations at any time in which safety is an issue, transport the individual in distress to the nearest emergency facility. Or call the Police or EMS via 911 (on campus use University Police at 21111), or the Galveston County Mental Health Deputies at 766-2324 or 911.
  • During normal working hours (weekdays 8-5) call Student Counseling at (409) 747-9508 to discuss the situation or to arrange for an appointment. You may also come for counseling as a walk-in, and we will arrange for a counselor to see you as soon as possible.
  • After hours or on weekends or holidays contact the Access Center at 1-800-917-8906.
  • You may be contacting Student Counseling about yourself, or about a friend. If you are concerned about a friend we hope you will use us as consultants. Let us help you out so that you don't get overwhelmed.
  • There is no such thing as a "dumb" question or request. We would prefer that you contact us for a small matter rather than wait until a serious crisis develops.
