Tuberculosis Screening

Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by a bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculosis transmission occurs when a person inhales airborne infectious droplet nuclei produced by a contagious individual who talks, sneezes, or coughs. UTMB requires that all students have a purified protein derivative (PPD) screening test placed and read at least 6 months before enrollment. All UTMB students are then required to have annual PPD tests to ensure adequate detection and follow-up of TB so that we may protect our students and our patients.

Please call Student Health and Counseling at (409) 747-9508 to schedule your PPD placement. An appointment will prevent a long wait!
