Installing the Checkpoint VPN Software
Virtual Private Network (VPN) software allows you to connect through the campus firewall to the UTMB network. If you connect to UTMB from a non-UTMB location (e.g. DSL, Cable Modem, AOL, MSN, etc.), you will need to install VPN software to connect to many campus resources. Operations such as mapping network drives and running applications such as Outlook require a VPN to connect since the firewall blocks these types of network access to UTMB. Your "trusted requestor" must complete a VPN application on your behalf (see the IS web page and https://irapub.utmb.edu/ for more info).
1. Download the Checkpoint VPN software install file from http://my.utmb.edu/is/Accessing_UTMB_Systems_from_Home/.
2. Run the executable file

3. Accept the license agreement.

4. Accept the default install location.

5. The installation will complete and ask you to view the README file.

6. Once installed a reboot is necessary to finish the installation.

7. Once you login after the reboot, the VPN installation will ask you to Update the VPN Manager. Click the Update Now button.

8. When requested login with your E-mail username (no need for domain name) and password. Note that you must be approved for VPN access for this step to work.

9. The Checkpoint SecureClient icon will be in your system tray when you login to your PC. When the software is active you must authenticate to the VPN software to be able to connect to any UTMB resources (even things that are not usually restricted). To connect to non-restricted UTMB resources right click the SecureClient icon and choose Stop VPN-1 SecureClient. To connect to restricted UTMB resources, e.g. mapped drives, Outlook, etc., double-click the SecureClient icon, click the Connect button in the window below, and provide your username/password.

10. See http://my.utmb.edu/is/Accessing_UTMB_Systems_from_Home/ for more information on the CheckPoint VPN software, including the UTMB Checkpoint VPN manual.
