Configuring Netscape Communicator for POPmail

 

1.  Choose Preferences from the Edit menu.

2.  Expand the items under the Mail & Groups category by clicking the + or double-clicking on the name.  Click Identity.

Enter your name, email address, and organization in the appropriate boxes.  Your email address is the email alias you were assigned with your exchange email account (username@utmb.edu).

3.  Click Mail Server.

Enter your username in the Mail server user name box.  Enter beach.utmb.edu in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server box.  If you are a student, enter student.utmb.edu in the Incoming mail server box.  If you are faculty/staff your Incoming mail server will be exchangeX.utmb.edu, where the X is 1, 2, 3, or 4;  see Finding the Name of your Exchange Email Server server or call the IS Help Desk (772-5200) for assistance.  Click the POP3 radio button in the Mail Server Type box.  If  you would like to also see your messages with the web or other clients, click the Leave messages on server box.  Note that you will need to use a different client to manage these messages, especially to delete messages to keep your mailbox under the 10 Mb storage limit.  Click OK.

4.  Test your mail by opening the mail window in Netscape and clicking the Get Messages button.
