Updating your Web Browser (Windows 95/98/NT)
To read Exchange email with a web browser (i.e. Outlook Web Access) you need Netscape Navigator (or Communicator) version 3.0 or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.03 or higher. To update you can use your current browser and dialup software to access the internet and download a new version. Windows 95, 98, and NT come with Microsoft Internet Explorer. If the version of the default browser does not meet the requirements for Outlook Web Access, you use the current version to connect to a web site and upgrade.
Install and configure dialup networking (e.g. UTMB Dialup Services for Windows 95 and 98), ensure that the Microsoft browser is installed, dialup to UTMB (or the internet via your own Internet Service Provider). Navigator and Internet Explorer can be downloaded from
http://home.netscape.com/download
and
http://www.microsoft.com/ie/download
respectively.
To download, choose the version to be installed, click on it, and select a directory to save the file into. A directory like C:\TEMP is recommended; remember the directory name where you saved the file and the name of the file. Netscape tends to have names like cc32e406.exe. Microsoft will allow you to save a small 400 Kb file; running that file will connect via the internet to download the rest of the files required for Internet Explorer.
Once downloaded, use Windows Explorer or My Computer to navigate to the directory containing the file and double click the file to install. Once the software is installed you can delete the downloaded file to recover disk space. Current versions of web browsers can be 10 25 Mb in size.
Note: Make sure your web browser enables "cookies" to use Outlook Web Access.
A cookie is an "identification tag" used by the web server to identify your
browser; it allows the email server to maintain its connection with your email session.
For Netscape 4.x: Choose Preferences from the Edit menu and click on Advanced. Make sure that the Accept all cookies option is checked.
For Internet Explorer 4.x: Choose Internet Options from the View menu and click on the Advanced tab. In the Security section, find Cookies and check Always accept cookies.
