Configuring Outlook 2003

As of August 2003 you will need to use VPN software to use the Outlook Exchange client from a non-UTMB location (e.g. DSL, Cable Modem, AOL, MSN, etc.).  See http://www.utmb.edu/studentinfo/chkptVPN/ for information on obtaining and installing a VPN connection.  Your "trusted requestor" must complete a VPN application on your behalf (see the IS web page and https://irapub.utmb.edu/ for more info).

1.  Install Outlook 2003 from the Office System 2003 CD.

2.  Click the Outlook icon on the desktop (or start Outlook from the Start Button).  Click the E-mail Accounts... button.

3.  Choose Add a new e-mail account.

4.  Choose Microsoft Exchange Server in the E-mail Accounts window.

5.  Enter exch2k3.utmb.edu for the exchange server and enter your email username in the User Name box.  The Cached Exchange Mode copies all of your email to your local PC.  Advantages are that you have a complete copy of your email and some options, like spam filtering, require cached mode.

6.  Click the Check Name button.  Enter your email username, password and utmb-users-m as the domain name.

7.  Click OK.  Your full name as displayed in the global address book should appear in the User Name box.  The exchange server name will be in the server box.  Your name will be underlined to signify the entry is correct.

8.  Click Next and then Finish.
