Thank you to the 614 students to took the SGA Student Satisfaction Survey this year! We truly appreciate your thoughtful comments and take them very seriously.
Student Life staff members have read each and every comment more than once! Below you will find a list of issues for which you requested improvements, at least one actual comment from that area, what we have done in response to that issue, and any continuing follow up or evaluation if necessary. (In this list we did not include the wonderful praise many of you gave us…but please know that we greatly appreciate them!)
If you have any further comments or specific suggestions, please forward them to the Director, Jodean Schmiederer!

Programs |
Try having lunches or other short programs during the day occasionally
More all school mixers in which we are encouraged to meet people from the different schools and interact with each other
More career development seminars
|
To get more specific feedback on the types of programs students would like, an e-mail requesting suggestions has been sent to the student body. |
Student Life and Programming Advisory Group will evaluate responses in Sept/Oct and make decisions regarding which suggestions to implement.
|
Quest |
Quest was overpopulated with medical students.
Quest seemed to be more for the younger students. |
Invitations are sent to all incoming students, but a greater percentage of the medical students choose to attend. We will address these concerns with the Quest planning committee and continue to work toward making all students feel welcome and a part of the experience.

Legal Services |
Students do not know about the availability of legal services |
Information regarding the availability of the attorney for students will be included in the Student News and Notes on a quarterly basis (Oct, Jan, April, and July)

JSC TV |
The TV in room 3 (of the JSC) does not carry the local ABC channel |
All televisions were checked on June 19, 2006 and were working appropriately.

JSC resources |
Student Center needs more resources, more fun things to do |
An e-mail requesting suggestions has been sent to the student body. |
JSC and/or Student Life Advisory Group will evaluate responses in Sept/Oct and make decisions regarding which suggestions to implement.
|
JSC Scanner |
The computers in the student center building do not have any functional scanners.
|
A new scanner (HP 4820) was purchased and installed in June 2006.

|
JSC Locked Computers |
Maybe take the locked option off of the computers downstairs in Joe’s, or have a timer (like in the library) |
“Lock” has been removed from these computers; they are being reconfigured to be like those in the library.
“REMEMBER: log off!” signs have been posted on the computers as well.

Yearly printing limit at the Student Center
Unlimited printing in the Jamail Student Center |
To our knowledge, and within our non-service center designation, there is no way for us to formally impose a limit on the printing. Unfortunately, the current budget does not allow for us to offer unlimited printing. (Having requested that this lab be used for incidental printing only, costs are approximately $5-6000 annually.)

Issue will be presented to the Technology Advisory Group in October. |
JSC/Police |
It is unprofessional for the police officers on campus to walk into the student center after hours and see students studying and target some by asking for IDs and not others. |
E-mailed Chief Brown regarding this issue. It would be understandable that if a police or security officer knows a student, that he/she may not ask that individual for identification; however, I have asked what are they formally instructed to do when going through the buildings in the evening?

JSC Upgrades |
Jamail Student Center needs some definite upgrading. Nicer lighting (non fluorescent), nicer chairs, nicer tables, real sound proofing in the individual rooms would be a start.
More couches to sleep on (Student center or library or new location of your choice) |
Student Life has received an estimate to have the inside of the building painted and it has come in at approximately $71,500. Currently the annual budget for maintenance and operations in the JSC is $25,000.
A few years ago the JSC Advisory Group and SGA met with architects to identify changes and needed renovations to this building. The average cost for these plans is $500,000 per floor. This year they will further those efforts to prioritize the changes and continue the process of looking for funding.

JSC A/C |
In the JSC the study rooms upstairs are too hot. The A/C doesn’t work very well.
The computer lab is way too cold. |
We have routinely requested that Facilities (FOAM) adjust the A/C in both of these areas. Unfortunately, due to the way the A/C system in the building is configured, if one area is cooler, other areas become too cold.
A representative from FOAM has been asked to participate in the JSC Advisory Group.

JSC Housekeeping Staff |
Jamail Student Center is not cleaned well enough
Housekeeping staff members in the JSC are seen not working or behaving in ways disruptive to students who are studying. |
Spoke with housekeeping staff and informed them of the students’ concerns.
Enzo Garetto, Personnel administrator with Sodexho was sent these comments. He has spoken with them and adjusted their responsibilities. OSL staff will be meeting with Mr. Garetto to review cleaning schedule and adjust if necessary.
|
OSL staff members will have a walk through with Sodexho administrators on a monthly basis. They will also periodically walk through the 1st and 3rd floors when housekeeping members are here to make sure activities are not continuing.

JSC Housekeeping |
Get couches cleaned. |
Outside cleaning service has been contacted and we have received an estimate for the project ($1950). The payment paperwork has been started and the goal is to schedule the cleaning for as soon as possible – hopefully prior to the start of the fall semester.

E-mail Lists |
Campus organization would benefit greatly from the availability of e-mail listserves
It is frustrating that students cannot make mailing lists/groups and save them |
The webmail system does allow group distribution lists to be created, but they cannot be shared with others. The goals are an updated version of webmail and improved information regarding use of the system.
- Invited IT representative to speak with SGA in August.
- Invited IT representative to participate on Technology Advisory Group.

Wireless Internet |
Wireless internet access needs to be extended to the Student Center
I have a very difficult time getting on to the wireless service. I think we should have a class with someone from IT to go through with us how to set up laptops, PDAs, and so on. |
There is wireless internet access in the JSC, but it may not be widely known. It is admittedly difficult to figure out how to access the wireless system. To help find solutions to this issue we have:
- Invited IT representative to speak with SGA in August.
- Invited IT representative to participate on Technology Advisory Group.
