Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment
The content for this page is currently being built and links may not be functioning. Please be patient with us and check back later.
Most of the activities managed out of the Office of Student Life fall into one or more of the following four categories: orientation or transition experiences; leadership development and involvement; community service and diversity awareness; or personal health and wellness. For each of these areas there are pre-determined student learning outcomes. To view these outcomes, click here.
The Office of Student Life works closely with the Student Government Association in administering their annual Satisfaction Survey each spring. This instrument assesses students’ satisfaction regarding the services provided and helps to identify areas in which there are needs not being met.
In addition to reviewing the report’s Likert scale evaluations, each individual comment is ready by all staff members in Student Life. Issues identified in the comments are addressed. Comments and OSL responses to them can be found on SGA's web page.
An evaluation of the Intramural Program and intended outcomes is currently underway. If you have participated in All Sports Day or an Intramural sport, take the survey by going to the web site.
Check back later to view the results of the assessment.
Student Life developed a self-assessment tool that asks students to identify whether or not their involvement in a number of our activities has caused growth in identified areas. The tool is moderately adapted for the specific group, and a sample of the tool can be found here.
Results of this assessment are currently being calculated and will be posted along with identified enhancement plans as soon as they are available.
This spring, the Office of Student Life conducted focus groups to identify what we could do differently to enhance our offerings for next year. Minutes from those meetings can be found here.
In conjunction with the Student Government Association, we run four different advisory committees. Membership is solicited through e-mail invitations each year in the fall term and through this web site.
For more information on these committees, visit the Advisory Group web site. If you'd like to participate in one of these committees, contact Erica Chance, M.S., the Director of Student Life, at emchance@utmb.edu.
Student Life also tracks use of its programs or services by requiring students to register for an event or service, requesting an RSVP, offering door prizes and encouraging students to enter, or counting attendance. This information is helpful in determining which student groups are involved and where concerted effort needs to be placed to encourage additional participation. These figured are included in an annual report at the end of the academic year and available here.
