Legal Services

The Student Government Association (SGA) provides free legal services to UTMB students.    

Currently our Student Lawyer is:     Jennifer Smith

Scope of Service:

• Legal services are related to family law (name changes, child support, divorce, etc.), landlord/tenant, wills, and miscellaneous (criminal, tickets, traffic accidents, etc.). 
• The lawyer may not provide services for issues that might develop into a conflict of interest with UTMB. Therefore, cases related to a student’s future professional role or student problems related to UTMB academic issues may not be handled by the Student’s Lawyer.
• Services do not include legal representation in court.
• Referrals will be made for cases that are not within the attorney’s expertise or scope.
• Legal services are available only to students and/or their spouse.  (They are not offered to faculty, staff, residents, or post-docs.)

The attorney sees students on most Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm. For an appointment, call the Office of Student Life at 772-1996.
