Campus Advisory Groups
There are a number of opportunities for you to make a difference – to help ensure that your time spent here at UTMB is a positive experience.
Please take a few minutes to review the leadership opportunities below.
STUDENT LIFE and PROGRAMMING Advisory Group
This group will start off by helping us decide what movies we will be showing for the Leadership Movie Series and help plan a community service activity for October. The group serves as a focus group or sounding board for some of Student Life's initiatives, and helps us plan many of them. We will meet once or twice a month (depending on the programming calendar or goals of the group) for an hour at lunch. Any additional time is completely optional and depends onyour schedule.
Student TECHNOLOGY Advisory Group
The Technology Group helps determine the effectiveness of the student web systems and offers suggestions and insights to help make them more user-friendly and beneficial to the students. Student Services and other departments around campus are continually trying to improve our communication and resources for students, and this group serves as a sounding board and test group for those changes. They will meet approximately once a month.
JAMAIL STUDENT CENTER Advisory Group
The JSC Advisory Group provides feedback and ideas on how to make the building, YOUR student center, more responsive to your needs. Last year they Jamail Advisory Group met with architects to identify changes and needed renovations to this building. This year they will further those efforts to prioritize the changes and continue the process of receiving funding. They will meet 4-5 times a year or as the need arises.
Student DIVERSITY Awareness Council
This Council began just a couple of years ago to discuss institution-wide issues as they relate to students and their environments. They discuss some of the hurdles students seem to be facing and meet with administrators to work toward solutions. They have a representative on the UTMB Diversity Council, and help plan activities for Black History Month and Women's History Month. The direction of this group is fairly loose and activities can go where the members deem necessary. They will meet once or twice a month depending on the programs, needs, or goals of the group.
HONOR PLEDGE Committee
The Honor Pledge Committee’s goal is to promote academic integrity and professionalism for all students at UTMB. Their first accomplishment was the development of the UTMB Honor Pledge. It was first taken by students in 2002, and is now taken by all new entering students. They have been instrumental in dealing with issues that address ethical, professional and relevant issues on campus. This committee is comprised of students from each of the four schools, faculty and administrators. It meets twice a month.
Again, if you have any questions, would like more information, or would like to sign up for participation, please contact Erica Chance, M.S., Director of Student Life, at emchance@utmb.edu or 409-747-4815.
