Housing in Galveston
We are unable to provide you with specific apartment recommendations. However, housing options can be considered geographically with a brief description of each region to give an idea of what each area has to offer. Student Life also has bulletin boards that have houses for rent in the area.
East End
East End is the area closest to campus. There are many rental homes and apartments available in this area. Several people just ride a bicycle or walk to class (10-15 min). For some, the drive would be approximately 2-7 min. This area is also near the historic Strand District and many of the homes are Victorian in style. Midtown
Midtown consists of housing options on and around 61st street. Several of the apartment complexes here are newer if not newly renovated. The drive to UTMB from this area is about 10-15 min. This area is closest to shopping places like Wal-Mart, Randall’s, Kroger, Office Depot, and Palais Royal as well most restaurants. Riding a bicycle or walking to class is not advised. Travel times increase 5-10 minutes during the summer/holiday tourist seasons.
West End
West End is relatively the farthest from campus (7 miles). One of the newest apartment complexes is located in this area, while others range from old to newly renovated. The drive to UTMB from this area is 15-20. This area is closest to the movie theater and approximately 4-5 min from shopping stores, grocery stores, and restaurants. Travel times increase 5-10 min during the summer/holiday tourist seasons.
