Resources

First, a few pointers for SAFE Allies:

  • Be comfortable with your own identity.
  • You are human, and we don’t ask for perfection.  Heterocentrism is taught to us all, so be gentle with yourself.
  • You are not expected to be an expert, just a supportive listener with great resources. If you are ever unsure of something, or would like to talk someone about being a SAFE Ally, you can contact another Ally or one of the Steering Committee Members!
  • Heterosexual allies are members of the majority group, and with that comes power to make changes. Use it well!
  • GLBTQ individuals will not always be coming to you with problems! They may come to you just to share joy and excitement with someone. Enjoy yourself and the people you meet.
  • You may also have heterosexual students come to you for information on GLBTQ issues. What a great educational opportunity!
