Allies...

Allies are anyone, regardless of sexual orientation, whose attitude and behavior is not heterosexist and who works towards combating homophobia and heterosexism, both on a personal and institutional level.

Allies treat everyone, regardless of age, sex, race, gender, religion, ethnicity or sexual orientation, with dignity and respect.

Allies understand that they are to serve as a resource.  They will offer assistance by:

  • Supporting diversity in all its many forms on this campus;
  • Creating a climate of acceptance;
  • Listening to individuals’ experiences, ideas or concerns;
  • When necessary, referring individuals to agencies or services who may best serve their needs;
  • Respecting confidentiality regarding someone’s sexual orientation or questions about GLBTQ issues.

They will aspire to:

  • Further educate themselves about GLBTQ issues;
  • Help to reduce and remove homosexual prejudice, homophobia, heterosexism, and oppression;
  • Provide a safe, affirming, and trustworthy community for GLBTQ persons.
