Occupational Exposure

Dear Student:

Students who experience an occupational exposure to blood or body fluids while in their role as a student should be released immediately to report to or call Student Wellness (409) 772-1215 if the exposure occurs between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. All occupational exposures to blood or body fluids should be evaluated within 2 hours of occurrence. Call Student Wellness at (409) 772-1215 during regular hours. After hours, on weekends, and on holidays, please call the Access Center at 1-800-917-8906 for instructions. Students with off-campus exposures should follow the same guidelines as above.

There is no charge for the assessment, treatment, or follow-up required for an occupational exposure to blood or body fluids. Occupational exposures, as with all visits to Student Wellness, are treated with the utmost of confidentiality.

Occupational exposures to communicable diseases (sustained while in the student role), such as tuberculosis, chickenpox, or meningitis, are to be reported to Student Wellness as soon as the exposure is known. All assessments, treatments, and follow-ups required for an occupational exposure to communicable diseases are at no charge to the student.
