O Arm

The Division of Neurosurgery at UTMB has acquired the latest technology available for neurosurgery and reconstructive spine procedures including the O-arm Surgical Imaging System. This is a multi-dimensional surgical imaging platform that is optimized for use in spine, orthopaedic, and trauma-related surgeries. It provides real-time, intra-operative imaging of a patient's anatomy with high quality images and a large field-of-view in both two and three dimensions.

By integrating O-arm surgical imaging technology with Medtronic's StealthStation surgical navigation systems, surgeons are able to perform less invasive procedures and confirm the precision of advanced surgical procedures before the patient leaves the OR.

fluorescence-based angiographyWith incorporated fluorescence-based angiography, this microscope provides state-of-the-art integrated vascular fluorescence. Our Neurosurgeons can easily determine the patency of vessels during surgery directly through the surgical microscope eyepieces or on a video monitor used in conjunction with IC-Green™ (Indocyanine Green) fluorescence agent to view cerebrovascular blood flow.

This non-invasive Navigation system allows our neurosurgeons to precisely track their surgical instruments real-time in relation to the patient’s anatomy helping us perform safer and more precise procedures, decrease the risk associated with more invasive approaches and improve outcome, recovery time and patient satisfaction.

Other: CUSA (Ultrasonic aspirator), CRW Radionics framed stereotaxy for both biopsy and functional work. Neurophysiological monitoring (including SSEP, cortical and subcortical mapping, brainstem evoked potentials, facial and peripheral nerve monopolar stimulation and recording). Our operating rooms are also equipped with flat screen monitors for staff and medical students.
