Welcome...
A message from our Director
Welcome to our UTMB Surgical Pathology WebSite. The Division of Surgical Pathology with six attending general Surgical Pathologists and nine subspecialty Pathologists are unswervingly committed to provide the best in clinical service, Resident and Fellow education as well as applied Pathology research.
Divisional accessions are over 18,000 annually (approximately half biopsies and
half surgical resection specimens) with strong representation of breast, gastrointestinal, genito-urinary, gynecologic, head and neck and pulmonary pathology. Our staff Pathologists are committed to excellence in education for our Fellows, Residents and medical students,
and as such provide a wide array of conference opportunities including:
Interesting Cases, Surgical Unknowns, Gross Unknowns, Topics in Surgical
Pathology and seven interdepartmental tumor boards.
Research efforts by the Faculty include participation in activities of the Center for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases, Institute of Human Infection and Immunity, and the WHO Collaborating Center for Tropical Diseases.
Located on Galveston Island along the Texas Gulf Coast, the thriving UTMB campus is only blocks from the beach, less than an hour from the Johnson Space Center, the Clear Lake Recreational Area as well as the City of Houston.
