The Gail Borden Building was dismantled in early 2005 as part of  improvements to UTMB's central campus.

Built in 1952 in response to the need for additional
laboratory space, the Gail Borden Building was designed to house the university’s basic science departments. It also served as one of many homes for the university’s library. It was named in memory of Gail Borden, who arrived on Galveston Island in 1829 and went on to found the first Texas newspaper, become the first customs collector at the Port of Galveston, and serve as secretary and an agent of the Galveston City Company.

Although he is credited with a number of inventions, his best known is probably the process for making condensed milk.
