A far departure from the early days of UTMB, when outpatients
received their care in makeshift “outdoor clinics,” the University Hospital
Clinics building provides more than 200,000 square feet of modern treatment
areas and a comfortable, spacious lobby. Completed at a cost of around $23
million, the seven-story structure opened in 1983 and consolidated the location
and services of 13 major UTMB clinics and 40 subspecialty clinics.
