Transit Service Offers Free Rides To UTMB's Employees, Students, and Patients

illustration of trolleyThe City of Galveston and UTMB have partnered to create an extended transit service to meet the needs of the university's employees, students, visitors and patients.

Under the agreement, UTMB employees, students and retirees qualify for free rides on buses and the trolley by showing their UTMB identification cards. Patients who show proof of scheduled appointments, admittance or pharmacy visits can also ride at no cost. In addition, people who accompany patients to offer assistance or children under 18 accompanying a patient will ride the bus for free. Fixed-route buses and DART services run Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m.-11:30 p.m. and Sundays from 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m.

Dial-a-Ride (DART) participants will also ride for free. DART is a curb-to-curb service for those persons who are unable, due to disability, to use the regular fixed route service. DART services require 24-hour notice. To obtain more information, an application for service, or a DART Passenger Guide, call 797-3909.

Due to the changing nature of the route schedules, we currently provide a link to the Island Transit web site, which contains the most current information. (Once on the Island Transit site, click on "Schedule" and "UTMB-Ferry Road" to view the current schedule.) Route maps for other parts of the city are also available at the Island Transit web site.
