| In
December 2000, the university introduced a new web resource aimed at
internal users of the Internet. An alternate home page—"iUTMB"—was
created to better address the specific needs and interests of UTMB’s
faculty, staff and students.
A preview of the page
was available for six weeks, and numerous,
valuable suggestions came from users and were incorporated.
On Tuesday, Jan. 16, iUTMB
became the default internal home
page. Campus machines and users dialing up on the UTMB modem pool were
automatically routed to iUTMB rather than the then-current, external home
page. Users are still able to click between the internal and external
pages via buttons linking the two, and are able to set a preference
for one or the other via a tool on the new page. Users are also able
to set home page preferences from their own browsers. Detailed
information on these options are available from the iUTMB site.
This is a user-driven resource. If there’s a frequently used tool
or web resource you’d like added to iUTMB, let us know. Dynamic
features and more customization options are planned. If you have any
questions or would like more information, please contact Pep
Valdes or Don Brunder.
You can visit iUTMB via a button on the main home page or by pointing
your browser at http://www.utmb.edu/iutmb.asp.
This is an initiative conducted under the direction of UTMB’s Web
Advisory Board.
"iUTMB" offers
more direct web experience; will be launched first week in January 2001

In
December 2000, the university introduced a new web resource aimed at
its internal users of the Internet. An alternate home page has been
created which better addresses the specific needs and interests of
UTMB’s faculty, staff and students. The page, called "iUTMB"
to distinguish it from the university’s main, externally focused home
page, is now being tested and is available for your use.
The page may be visited at www.utmb.edu/iutmb.asp
The alternate home page offers more links and links to the types of
information employees and students are most likely to need. It will be
updated frequently with important campus information, and will set the
foundation for a truly personalized, custom user page in the coming
year.
During the testing phase, the new internal page is available via
a button on the external home page.
In January, all
internal users of the Internet accessing the main home page will
automatically be routed at iUTMB. Users will then be able to set a
preference for one page or the other, to follow links between the two
pages, or to do nothing and continue to use iUTMB. (Users can
always set home page preferences from their browsers, also.)
An "internal user" is defined
as someone using a machine with a UTMB IP address, or logged in via the
modem pool.
If there’s a commonly used web resource you’d like added to iUTMB,
now is the perfect time to submit the suggestion. There’s a way to do
so on the new page. If you have any questions or would like more
information about iUTMB or any of the university’s other web
initiatives, please contact Pep Valdes
or Don Brunder.
This is an effort supported, endorsed, and conducted under the
direction of UTMB’s Web Advisory Board.
