Continuum staff can be found here... Medical Staff Gerald Cleveland
Gerald Cleveland leads the
Personal Health Management Program within the Office of Preventive,
Occupational and Environmental Medicine (POEM) at UTMB. Cleveland and his
colleagues believe the key to positive long-term health outcomes is
prevention. Prevention is at the core of its many POEM programs and
services. Cleveland developed and implemented health promotion/wellness
programs for employees at UTMB in 1992. These services began with a focus on
physical activity and have grown to include behavioral and weight
management, special intervention programs, focused research in the areas of
program effectiveness, health promotion consultation, and fitness center
management. Cleveland received his BS degree from the University of
Alabama-Birmingham in health education and psychology, and a master's degree
in health and human performance from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
Cleveland holds certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine
and the Cooper Center for Aerobic Research. He has served as president of
Region VI Association for Worksite Health Promotion Board of Directors and
as president of the Galveston Chapter of the American Heart Association.
"The Wellness Continuum at UTMB offers an opportunity to be part of an
integrated team of professionals dedicated to the purpose of improving the
health and awareness of patients," Cleveland said. "The one-on-one approach
is the most effective way to instill long-term behavioral change, which is
the precursor to optimal health."
