Dr. Mae Ellen Kelver is Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics
and Gynecology, Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the
University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. Kelver attended the University of Texas at Austin where she received her undergraduate degree with honors. She earned her medical degree at UTMB in 1979, where she also completed her residency. Dr. Kelver then completed a fellowship in her subspecialty of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 1991.

Dr. Kelver’s clinical interests include all aspects of infertility and reproductive endocrinology. She has experience in the diagnosis of infertility patients and their medical and surgical treatments. Procedures in which she has special expertise include in vitro fertilization, laser surgery, and surgical removal of endometriosis and uterine leiomyoma. She is particularly interested in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome, hirsutism, irregular cycles, amenorrhea and hyper-prolactinemia. One of her favorite clinics is her menopause clinic where she treats patients for vasomotor symptoms, vaginal atrophy symptoms, and osteoporosis and its prevention.

Dr. Kelver’s research projects throughout her career have been numerous. Her current areas of research interest include treatment of menopausal symptoms, estrogen regulation of endometrial lactoferrin, and medical therapy for endometriosis.

Dr. Kelver is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She is an elected member of several scientific societies, including the Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Galveston County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical Association, and the Sigma Xi Scientific Society.

Within UTMB, Dr. Kelver is an active member of a number of committees, task forces and initiatives, including the institution’s Quality Assurance Committee and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Education Committee. Dr. Kelver also serves as the Chairperson for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Quality Assurance Committee. She also is a member of the Faculty Women’s Caucus at the university. She particularly enjoys teaching the medical students, physician assistant students, residents, and fellows.
