Our Heritage

Founded as the state’s first medical school in 1891, UTMB has served Texas and the nation for more than a century with programs of excellence in health science education, patient care and research. From its beginnings as one hospital and one school, UTMB today consists of six hospitals, an extensive network of campus- and community-based clinics, a Level I trauma center, four schools, two institutes, an affiliated Shriners Burns Hospital, and state-of-the-art research facilities.
