Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a pulse survey?
A: A pulse survey is a confidential employee survey that is used to collect feedback to monitor the internal operating health or climate of an organization. Just as the pulse is a vital sign when assessing a patient’s health, Pulse Survey results will be a vital sign for employee satisfaction and engagement. Responses to the survey will provide crucial information needed to adjust action plans. All eligible employees are strongly encouraged to participate.

Q: Who is eligible to complete the survey?
A: The survey is open to all full and part-time UTMB benefits-eligible employees on payroll as of January 13, 2013, and all are encouraged to participate even if they did not participate in the original You Count! survey.

Q: When does the survey begin?
A: Eligible employees will receive an email with a link to the survey in February 2013.

Q: Will I need a special code to access the survey?
A: Only your employee number will be required to login to the survey.

Q: Does this survey really matter? Why should I even participate?
A: Your participation is critical to the survey success. It’s your opportunity to voice your opinion. While participation is voluntary, the more employees who participate, the more accurately we can identify and ultimately address employee perceptions and concerns. UTMB takes this survey seriously.

Q: Can my manager see my You Count! survey responses? Should I worry about responding honestly?
A: No, all data collected for the You Count! Pulse survey will be kept confidential. The data is given to UTMB at the entity, department, and division levels. If less than five people respond in any given division, those responses are incorporated into the next larger group summary.

Q: How many questions are on the survey? How were the questions selected? How long will it take to complete the survey?
A: There will be approximately 50 questions taken from the original 2011 Morehead survey. These questions meet Magnet, The Joint Commission, and UHC standards. It should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Q: Is there a prize offered?
A: For the 2013 Pulse Survey no prizes will be offered.

Q: If I am interrupted and have to stop the survey, will I be able to return to it later?
A: The survey will remain accessible until you click the Submit button. However, it will not save your answers, so if you are interrupted and close out of the survey before hitting Submit then you will have to start over when you return.

Q: Why is the survey only online this year?
A: Nationally, online employee surveys are the standard and a best practice. Organizations (including health care) that only offer online surveys typically achieve a higher participation rate than those that use paper surveys. The use of online surveys also results in cost savings, from printing, processing and postage reductions. UTMB Health has conducted surveys completely online since 2007 and it has been successful.

Q: What if I don’t have access to a computer at work?
We recognize that some employees don’t have access to a computer at a private workstation. If that’s you, we encourage you to participate at an alternate location since the survey can be taken from any place that you can access your email and/or have access to the Internet. Some alternate locations may include different location at work, at home, at a friend’s house, your local public library, or at the Moody Medical Library.

Employees can use the computers located on the second floor of the Moody Medical Library. The computers are available during the following times:

Monday – Thursday      7am – midnight
Friday                           7am – 9pm
Saturday                       9am – 8pm
Sunday                          noon – 11pm

Q: If I complete the You Count! survey via the web will my responses be confidential?
A:. UTMB is only interested in the data summarized at group-levels, such as entity, department, and division levels. UTMB will not track the data back to the individual employee and runs counter to the purpose and the intent of the survey.
