Types of ADHD

ADHD Combined Type

Overall the most commonly diagnosed type and by far the most common among boys: both the inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity criteria are met.

ADHD Predominantly Hyperactive/Impulsive Type

The inattention criteria are not met. Usually a careful history will reveal difficulty with inattention as well.

ADHD Predominantly Inattentive Type

The hyperactivity/impulsivity criteria are not met. This may well be an altogether different disorder, as there is no male predominance. Both girls and boys are equally affected and many of these children ultimately are diagnosed with other conditions.
