ldquo\;Trends in Revascularization and Utilization of Mechanical Circulato
ry Support in Elderly\nPatient Presenting with Acute Myocardial Infarction
Complicated by Cardiogenic Shock&rdquo\;Acute myocardial infarction (AMI)
complicated by cardiogenic shock carries a high morbidity and mortality r
ate. Despite this\, there is paucity in real world data on outcomes in eld
erly patients (&gt\;65 years) presenting with ST-elevation myocardial infa
rction\n (STEMI) complicated by cardiogenic shock. Therefore\, we perfo
rmed a retrospective cohort study using the 100% Texas MEDPAR database fro
m 2005-2021 to examine temporal trends in utilization of invasive therapie
 s such as fibrinolytics\, PCI\, CABG\, mechanical\n circulatory support
\, and pulmonary artery catheterization in patients 65-75 years and &gt\;7
 5 years. We also evaluated in-hospital mortality\, length of stay\, and 30
-day readmission. We found an overall increase in the utilization of PCI\,
Impella\, and\n pulmonary artery catheterization with a decline in IAB
P and CABG use. There was decreased in-hospital and 30-day mortality in el
derly patients who underwent revascularization.Dr. Thakker is a 2nd year f
ellow in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. He is an alumnus of the
UTMB School of Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency Program where he w
as awarded the GME overall outstanding resident award. His clinical intere
sts\n are in cardiogenic shock and invasive therapies in the treatment
and management of AMI cardiogenic shock. His research interest(s) are focu
sed on outcomes research and quality improvement. He has published 38 publ
ications during his training in peer-reviewed\n journals such as JACC C
ardiovascular Interventions\, JAMA Network Open\, Journal of the American
Heart Association\, and others. Aside from his clinical and research work\
, he is active in leadership at the national level for the American Colleg
 e of Cardiology.\n
