Deborah Carlson, PhD

Dr. Carlson has been recognized at the local, state and national levels for her work related to quality measures, standards of care, and consumer education.  She is best known for her work in communication disorders.  When patients speak of her they all refer to her a "my" doctor and take pride in the association   She is active in adult and pediatric hearing loss.  Dr. Carlson has established standards and administering the birth screening programs at UTMB, and is very active in medical education.

Patricia Rogers, MD, FAAP

Dr. Rogers is known as an enthusiastic medical educator and has received numerous teaching awards.  The UT Board of Regents has named her a Distinguished Teaching Professor for her significant contributions to medical education.  She is a scholar in the John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine, a member of the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers, and is listed in the Texas Hall of Fame of Super Doctors.  Dr. Rogers has received the Martin Luther King award for her significant contributions in promoting equity within the community and at UTMB.

Premal Patel, MD, MSc, FACP

Dr. Patel promotes a patient-centered environment of care that is mindful of cultural humility. She is a very respected clinician-educator and is accredited through the American Academy of HIV Medicine as an HIV specialist. Her clinical work is highly regarded and has been acknowledged by her appointment as a scholar in the John P McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine. Dr. Patel is very active in medical education and has taken many key leadership roles in advancing the educational platform for all learners both locally and throughout the community. She is the Associate Director of the Center for Global Health Education, co-coordinator of the Global Health Interprofessional Core Course,  holds leadership in SCOPE and TEAM, and co-created the SOM course for MSI called META.
