Ms. Contreras earned her Bachelor of Science degree from University of Houston-Clear Lake majoring in biology and minoring in biotechnology. She graduated from the UTMB PA studies program in 2008. Specializing in neurology, she developed a special interest in headaches and movement disorders. She previously served as a faculty member at Baylor College of Medicine, where she worked as a clinician, educator, and in research with a focus in Multiple Sclerosis.
Ms. Contreras joined the faculty at UTMB in 2014 and has expanded her teaching interests beyond neurology, to include behavioral medicine, preventive medicine, and global health.
Ms. Contreras has been instrumental in educating the public on human anti-trafficking and it has been a focus of her research interests. Ms. Contreras has numerous scholarly contributions included in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, abstracts, education materials, and professional presentations.
Ms. Contreras is a fellow member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA), and Texas Academy of Physician Assistants (TAPA). She maintains her lifetime membership with Alpha Eta Honor Society, Pi Alpha Honor Society, and Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Society.
