Dr. Tran is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Surgery within the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He serves as the Assistant Program Director of the General Surgery Residency Program at UTMB.

Dr. Tran completed his general surgery residency training at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. After residency, he went on to complete fellowship training in Pediatric Surgical Critical Care, Pediatric Critical Care Scholar, and Pediatric Surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL.

Since joining UTMB in 2016, Dr. Tran has been heavily involved in resident and medical student education. He has served as a faculty facilitator in Gross Anatomy & Radiology course and Practice of Medicine 1 for the first-year medical students and currently is an active facilitator for 3rd year medical students in the general surgery clerkship. In recognition of his exceptional teaching efforts, he has been twice awarded the Golden Scalpel Award for the Outstanding Faculty Teacher in Surgery from the surgery medical students over two consecutive years. More recently, Dr. Tran has become the Assistant Program Director in General Surgery and has developed a Socratic educational curriculum for the surgery residents in the residency program. In 2018, he was voted one of Houston’s Top Doctors in Houstonia Magazine.
